We celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary recently. And the best way we have found to celebrate is with a nice lovely meal together. As usual, I would cook my wife’s favourite – Wagyu rib-eye steak. But she also did a bit of the cooking as well.
To start the celebration off, I made our favourite cocktail – the Margarita. However I did find juicing lime to be quite a chore, which was why I bought a new lime juicer for the job. And this tool certainly makes it a whole lot easier, and extracts more juice from the lime as well.
To use it, the half slice of lime is placed facing down for juicing, and it is as simple as pressing the two arms of the juicer together to extract the juice out of the lime.
And with the lime juice extracted, it is the case of mixing up the margarita. I would juice 2 lime for the margarita, but there is always more juice than is needed, which can be used for cooking. With such a lovely cocktail, it certainly is a great start to our celebration.
Next my wife cooked my favourite dish – pan-fried scallops. Just a little salt is all it takes to make this taste great.
Suffice it to say that I ate most of the scallops.
My wife then pan-fried a plate of king prawns for the girls. It was finished fairly quickly.
Now I had picked a lovely home-grown heart-shaped strawberry, which we shared together.
For dinner, I served my wife her favourite meal – rib-eye steak with leafy salad, as well as a bowl of tomato and basil soup. The steak was washed down with the remainder of that bottle of Vieux Chateau Certan 1999 I had opened for my wife’s birthday, which still tasted lovely thanks to the PresorVac wine preservation system we normally use.
It was a great meal and celebration, which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
