I have a BT Vision+ box for viewing and recording television programs, some of which is via the internet. It is particularly the BT Sport programs which interest me – I get to watch some live English Premiere League games, and ESPN programs: particularly NBA basketball, Major League Baseball and College Football.
Unfortunately according to BT Customer support, the BT Vision+ box needs to be connected via an ethernet cable to the router to work properly. The previous Powerline adapters I had were not up to the task, as every now and then the recordings would freeze and this impacts on the enjoyment of the games; as well as warning messages from the box about slow connection.
One of the options available is to use network cables from my bedroom to the living room where the router is situated – very messy as there will be wires or wire conduits visible along the walls and ceiling. Now as some BT customers seem to be able to use Powerline Adapters, I thought I should look into getting fast ones for my system. Hence I decided to get the Solwise Smartlink 1200 AV2 powerline adapters – cost under £80.
These powerline adapters allow for data to be transferred securely through the electrical cables in the walls, without the need for rewiring. The Solwise Smartlink 1200 AV2 adapters have been clocked at very high data transfer speeds, which make them ideal for my system. In fact, with 2 x Gigabit ports on the adapter, I should be able to connect the BT Vision+ box plus another device to the router, such as the Apple TV, PC, or a gaming console.
As can be seen, each adapter is boxed separately. It does have an AC passthrough power socket so you do not lose a socket point when using this device.
It does come with a network cable, which is very short – hence I had to use a different cable to connect to my router via the power point.
It was very simple to connect the powerline adapter as it worked straight away after plugging them into the wall socket and connecting the router and the BT Vision+ box to their respective powerline adapter via the network cable.
And the great news, it seems to be working perfectly without any disruption when watching or recording BT Sports programs. And no more warning messages from the BT Vision+ box of slow connection speeds. Great.
The Solwise Smartlink 1200 AV2 Powerline adapters definitely work for the BT VIsion+ Box. This is great, as I no longer need to think about installing network cables from my bedroom to the living room to enjoy the BT Sports programs. It is reasonably priced, particularly as it has 2 ports to connect two devices to the router at the same time and does not use up a socket point (as it has a passthrough socket on the adapter). Highly recommended, particularly if you are like me and need fast, reliable wired connection and do not wish to have cables trailing around, then this is a great option.
