Owing to the limited hard drive space on the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, I looked at the various options available for extending the storage capacity. As I wanted to have it as compact as possible, I looked into the various Micro SD cards available. The Surface Pro 3 does have a Micro SD card slot, which would enable increasing storage space without anything protruding out of the sleek slim casing of the Surface Pro. Hence I decided to get the Samsung 64GB Pro Micro SD card. Price £42.01 on Amazon.co.uk.
Samsung have a few different Micro SD cards in their range, from the budget Evo range up to the higher specification Pro range. As I wanted the fastest speed available, I went with the Pro series. I chose the 64GB card, as this was the maximum capacity for this series. It is supposed to have 5 features which make it suitable for professional use:
1) Waterproof: will survive up to 24 hours in sea water.
2) Temperature-proof: It can survive temperatures from -25 degrees to 85 degrees Celsius.
3) X-ray proof
5) Fast transfer rates: up to 90MB/s read and 80MB/s write speeds
Anyway, the main question is, does the card delivery in terms of transfer speed?
As you can see, it does live up to the claims of the manufacturer for sequential read/write. And it fits nicely in the Micro SD card slot of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, it is a very economical way of increasing storage space particularly when you do not want anything protruding out of the Surface Pro.
Highly recommended. Economical and unintrusive way to increase storage space.
