Drinking a nice cup of coffee has become part of my daily routine. For the times when I am not able to use my Delonghi bean-to-cup coffee machine to make my coffee, I needed to get a portable coffee maker which could make great coffee with ground coffee and which does not cost too much. Hence when I found the Staresso Manual coffee maker for £29.99 on Amazon.co.uk, I had to buy this to try. Continue reading Staresso Manual Coffee maker
Recently I thought it would be worth exploring other cocktails which may be worth making. One of those is the Singapore Sling, which is highly well known but that we had never actually drunk during our visits to Singapore. And as I had most of the ingredients to make this anyway, I decided to give it a go. Continue reading Singapore Sling
Previously when I first got into drinking a cup of coffee in the morning, I did not know better so I bought the Dolce Gusto Melody coffee machine to brew the coffee. I then realised that it had limited numbers of coffee pods, none of which appealed to me. Hence I tried opening up the used pods and replacing them with ground coffee and placed aluminium foil over it to form the lid, just so I could make a cup I would be happy to drink.
As it was a lot of work and not always successful, I finally gave up and bought a Bean-to-Cup machine by Delonghi to meet my coffee needs. But now that there are refillable pods available for the Dolce Gusto, I thought I would buy these to try – will save money in the long run, reduce the amount of waste produced by those disposable pods, and more importantly allow for the use of better coffee beans/ground coffee to make that nice cup of coffee worth drinking. Continue reading Lictin Pack of 3 Refillable Dolce Gusto Pods
Recently we were made aware of a quaint little cafe along St Clement’s Street in Oxford, called Rachel’s Cafe, as one of our neighbours bought us some moon cakes from there around the Mid-Autumn festival. Hence we decided that we would go visit there to get lunch and more moon cakes late last Saturday morning. Continue reading Rachel’s Cafe in Oxford
Recently when I went on my weekly grocery shopping, I went to the freezer section to buy my usual frozen blueberries and strawberries for my fruit-protein smoothie. While there, I noted that there were plenty of other fruits and vegetables available to purchase – clearly healthy eating and smoothies is big business, which is why there are so many options available. I noted that there were wheatgrass and acai berry pellets for making smoothies, and hence I bought these as well. The wheatgrass pellet pack costs more at £3.00 per 100g, while the acai berry pack costs £2.00 per 100g pack (same as the other fruit packs). Continue reading Wheatgrass and Acai berry Pellets
Ever since I bought the Amazon Echo dot, I have been wishing for the ability to use it as an intercom within our house. With our house spread over 3 floors, having an intercom would make it easier to communicate with my daughters when they are upstairs or for them to check with my wife when dinner will be served. Hence when it was announced by Amazon that calling and messaging was coming to their devices and through the Amazon Alexa App, I could not wait to get this setup. I had been aware of the iOS 11 update which had become available recently. After delaying this by over a week, I decided to take the plunge and update my iPhone 6 plus. The process was uneventful and so I updated my iPad Pro as well. Yesterday, I was singing the praises of the iOS 11 to my wife, and suggested that she update this. But shortly after this, I needed to look for some personal information which I had saved in my Notebooks 6 App. To my dismay, I was met with a screen saying that it was no longer functioning in iOS 11 and needed to be updated by the developer of the App before it could be used.
I had a lot of personal information saved away in the App which I could no longer access – I started panicking. I immediately texted my wife to ask her not to update to iOS 11, as she also uses the Notebooks 6 App to store a lot of her important information. Unfortunately she replied that she had already done it, which was rather unusual for my wife as she normally leaves the updating of her devices until she has no choice but to update; was my fault for suggesting to her to update. Suddenly a sense of regret had set down on both of us for updating to iOS 11. But there must be a solution to our problem. Continue reading Notebooks 6 App issue with iOS 11 – Solution
About two weeks ago, one of my colleagues reported that her house had been burgled during the daytime when everyone was out. Apparently there is a gang of burglars operating in the area where she lives. They seem to target victims whom they think may have cash and jewelry stashed away at home – and avoid taking things which can be traced e.g. laptops, tablets etc. The frightening thing is that they somehow managed to deactivate the house alarm, so it was rendered useless.
And this week we had a visit from a police officer one evening who informed us that a neighbour had been burgled that day in the daytime. The police were going around to ask if any of the neighbours had noticed anything suspicious. With things like that happening close to home, we felt the need to increase the monitoring of our premises particularly when we are out. As we feel that the Ring Video Doorbell works really well, we decided to buy their Stick Up Cam for use in our backyard. Continue reading Ring Stick Up Cam
A few weeks ago, I noted that the Gel nose pad I had mounted on my glasses had started leaking and was no longer providing adequate support. This is probably the third time that the gel nose pads have leaked and needed replacing. Hence I had to look for alternative nose pads. I finally settled on the German made Frey & Winkler Air Active comfort nose pads from Amazon.co.uk. Continue reading Frey & Winkler Air Active Comfort Nose Pads
This thread is not about mobile phones, but of freshly picked fruits. Over the weekend, while we were walking to our Village Hall, we passed by the village park. This was when we noted that there were blackberry bushes which were bearing ripe fruit ready for the picking. Needless to say, when we went home, we took two empty baskets and made our way back out to pick the blackberries. Continue reading Blackberries and Apples
