Nougat is a confectionery made from beaten egg whites, honey and roasted nuts. So while it looks like nougat actually originated from South Europe, it is not unexpected for such an interesting confectionery to be made in countries as far away as Australia. In fact, in the past the nougat I have eaten have all come from Australia. So when one of our friends gave us a pack of Mondo soft nougat, I was very interested to see what it tasted like (even though I am watching my calorie intake).
Mondo Nougat is an Australian company which purely produce nougat, with the founders of the company originating from Italy. They have come up with flavours of nougat which are more to the Aussie taste, rather than traditional continental flavours. The pack that we were given was macadamia and honey.
The nougat that I’ve eaten in the past were fairly hard in texture with roasted nuts such as pistachio making it taste nice, but rather tough on the teeth. The Mondo nougat has a much softer texture which works very well with the macadamia nuts – this combination is definitely something I like and enjoy eating.
Each piece of nougat is also very eye-catching, which adds to the enjoyment when eating it.
I have to say that the Mondo Macadamia and honey soft nougat is probably the best nougat I’ve ever had. It definitely works very well from both the texture and taste point of view. If you’ve not tasted this nougat, you are probably missing out on a really nice confectionery.
