Today is the mid-autumn festival (aka moon cake festival). This is the day in the Chinese calendar when the children light their lanterns, and walk around the streets, and for families to share moon cakes. We had our own little lantern festival in our back garden.
Anyway, here are some of the images from tonight.
Moon cakes usually have a thin pastry outer skin, surrounding a sweet dense filling, in this case it is lotus paste.
The lanterns come in various shapes and sizes, and mainly appeal to the children, as you can see from many of the designs.
What moon cake festival would be complete without a picture of the full moon. This was taken with the Olympus E-PL5, Skywatcher ED80 telescope and Baader Moon glow filter.
