Food photography: tempura

Recently we had been to Yo Sushi! for lunch and really liked the tempura prawns there. Hence when I saw the tempura mix in Tesco, I decided to buy some back for my wife to cook with.

Other food which would work with tempura would be marrow and aubergine (egg plant).

Things we have learnt from this:

1) Use sparkling water or soda water, as that works much better in the batter mix.

2) The tempura mix is made up of Corn flour, plain flour and baking powder. Hence it is cheaper to mix this up yourself than buy the ready-mix.

My children and I do love it, but this involves deep frying in oil and is oily. Hence this should only be eaten occasionally.
