On Sunday after church, we had arranged with two other families to celebrate our dear friend’s birthday in our house. As can be expected, there were many plates of delectable delights on display. And as would be expected, I was there on hand to capture these with my camera. Continue reading Birthday Feast

Cote Brasserie – Leamington Spa
On Friday, we went as a family to attend the graduation ceremony in Warwick of Michael Ho, whom we have known as a young kid when he was just a few years old. So to see him now a fully grown adult and graduating from the University of Warwick was emotional. To celebrate this, we went to the Cote Brasserie in Leamington Spa for dinner. Wedding Anniversary dinner – Ostrich steak and Duck breast
For this year’s wedding anniversary dinner, I decided to cook something I had never cooked before – Ostrich steak. As I was uncertain how my wife would react to this new cut of meat, I also cooked sous vide duck breast as I know that she will enjoy this. Continue reading Wedding Anniversary dinner – Ostrich steak and Duck breast
Wedding Anniversary – Loch Fyne Lunch
Another event we celebrate in June is our wedding anniversary. This year, we decided to go to Loch Fyne Seafood restaurant in Oxford (actually it was my idea). As my daughter had finished her exams, she also came along to celebrate with us – being the fruit of our marriage. And we had a wonderful time together, as it was nice and cool in the restaurant, unlike outside where it was 31 degrees Celsius and so very hot. Continue reading Wedding Anniversary – Loch Fyne Lunch
Father’s Day Celebration
With sunny very warm weather forecast for England on Father’s day, we decided that it would be best to dine at home in the evening rather than brave the energy-sapping weather. Hence we bought plenty of finger food to munch on. But we also wanted to be refreshed by a lovely non-alcoholic cocktail, similar to the ones we had in Jamie’s Italian. Continue reading Father’s Day Celebration
Strawberries
Recently, we had our harvest of the first strawberries of the season. Unlike the ones that can be bought from the supermarket, these are smaller and more intensely red in colour, and have more flavour. Continue reading Strawberries
Birthday dinner – Mamma Mia Summertown
In keeping with birthday season, we had the second birthday to celebrate – my wife’s. For this, we decided to book a table for our family at Mamma Mia in Summertown, Oxford. It was a good thing too, as people were getting turned away at the door as they did not have available tables. Continue reading Birthday dinner – Mamma Mia Summertown
Birthday dinner – Jamie’s Italian
For my oldest daughter’s birthday, we decided to celebrate by eating out for dinner. As she liked Jamie’s Italian, which first opened in Oxford in 2008, we decided to go there for the dinner meal. Continue reading Birthday dinner – Jamie’s Italian
Food presentation
Now when we go out for a meal, particularly in Chinese restaurants, they do serve the food in a way to make it more appealing to the sight, smell and taste. Hence for dinner this week, I decided to plate the food up so as to appeal to all three senses, which would invite my family to dig into the food, and hopefully enhance the entire dining experience. Birthday dinner
Now as we had such a heavy and filling lunch on my birthday, it scuppered my wife’s plans to cook a birthday dinner feast. Hence she had to change her plans and cook the food over two nights instead. I was not complaining as it meant I could enjoy special food cooked by my wife over two nights. Continue reading Birthday dinner
