Birthday party food

We went to our friend’s 50th birthday party on Friday. There were many of us who gathered there to celebrate the birthday. As you would expect at such a celebration, there were many dishes of food served, thanks to our generous hosts. I thought I would share the photos from that lovely meal.

We started off with a huge tray of stir-fried crab.

Next came the fried king prawn.

As we tend to have rice at such meals, there was also a large pot of chicken and vegetables curry.

And you can’t have a party without some roast pork.

They also served stir-fried kai lan, which is a lovely chinese vegetable dish, but can only be bought from the chinese supermarkets.

Not one I enjoy (I don’t like mushrooms), but I’m sure everyone else enjoyed the mushrooms. The choi sum was nicely cooked though.

There was also a plate of roast duck.

And I just had to take another photo of the roast pork – really crispy skin and tender meat. Lovely.

To accompany the meal, I brought a 11 year old Australian shiraz, which would go well with Chinese food. It went down very well indeed (sorry no pics of this).

After the dinner, we proceeded to light the candles for the birthday cake; they decided that there was no need to put candles on the pavlova.

It was a truly lovely meal and the birthday girl had a smile throughout the evening.
