Having read about the Amazon Echo Dot for a few months now, I decided to take the plunge and buy it to introduce some voice-activated home automation into our house. At £49.95 thought it isn’t cheap, it is also not a very high price for what it offers, particularly as I am an Amazon Prime member and can make use of the Amazon Prime Music feature.
This hockey-puck shaped device is very small, so does not take up much space in the home. It promises the ability to provide information, play music from various sources (Amazon Music, Spotify and TuneIn), and control various Smart home devices. It is particularly the latter that I am interested in, although my daughters are enjoying the music and information that the Echo Dot can provide.
It comes complete with the Micro USB cable and USB power adapter. I chose the black version as it fits in better with my bedroom decor.
If you are stuck on what the Echo Dot can do, Amazon do provide a list of things you could get Alexa to do for you.
