Bak Kwa

One of the foods which my daughters love to eat which we can’t get in England is Bak Kwa, which is a Chinese salty-sweet dried meat which can be bought in countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. For Chinese New Year this year, my wife decided to make this for my daughters, as a special treat for the occasion. I also managed to convince her to make this for the church CNY celebration as well. TP-Link Archer VR2600 VDSL/ADSL Modem Router

Towards the end of last year, we had a period of about 11 days when we had no internet access owing to an issue with our Internet Service Provider – BT Optic Fiber network had a hardware problem, coupled with a failure of our BT Smart Hub (Home Hub 6). However, the replacement Smart Hub failed two weeks later, which prompted me to look for an alternative, more reliable Modem router. I settled on the TP-Link Archer VR2600 as it was the fastest one-box setup which was reasonably priced at £159.99 on Amazon. Continue reading TP-Link Archer VR2600 VDSL/ADSL Modem Router

iPad Pro 12.9″ Accessories

When the iPad Pro 12.9″ was initially released in November 2015, I had considered buying it but had resisted as it did not have the necessary accessories which would make it more useful for me. The biggest reason was that there was no mounting solution similar to how I use my iPad 4 bedside. But as my iPad 4 was proving too slow, and I wanted a larger screen, I had to look to some DIY to convert my current mount to hold the iPad Pro. I’ve also bought a few accessories for it to make it even more useful. Continue reading iPad Pro 12.9″ Accessories

Metz 52 AF-1 flash for Olympus/Panasonic

On Christmas eve, I unfortunately had an accident and dropped my Olympus E-P5 with my FL-600R flash on board, a short distance onto a thick rug. That jolt was enough to break the hot-shoe foot of my Olympus flash. As I tend to use flash photography for indoor photos, it was essential for me to have a flash I could use. Hence I had to look for a replacement or get it repaired. Then I saw in the Amazon Lightning deals that they had the Metz 52 AF-1 for Olympus on offer for £125.40 (RRP £209). Hence I snapped it up before the offer ended. Continue reading Metz 52 AF-1 flash for Olympus/Panasonic

Vivis 20,000mAh Battery Pack

One of the things I do worry about is for my portable devices to run out of battery, especially the iPhone which is essential for work, contact with friends and family, as well as accessing emails and social media e.g. WhatsApp, Messenger. I’ve seen my wife run out battery so many times, and hence I am aware of the usefulness of back-up batteries. Hence when the Vivis 20,000 mAh battery pack came up on the Lightning deals on Amazon for £18.39 (RRP £22.99), I just had to buy one. Continue reading Vivis 20,000mAh Battery Pack

Lenovo Yoga Book Windows 10 Convertible Laptop

On Christmas Eve, I took my daughters to John Lewis in Wycombe to collect the new iPhone my wife had ordered. While there, we went around to look at the various electronic devices on display and one computer which caught the eye of my two daughters was the Lenovo Yoga Book. And when the salesperson showed us what it was capable of, my daughters both wanted one – each. After discussing with my wife, we decided that we would get one for each of them as there are so many benefits of this device to facilitate their learning.
