Lunar image – ASI178MM-Cooled

I have been waiting for opportunities to break in my ZWO ASI178MM-cooled imager and do some imaging. The mono sensor of this camera is particularly suited for planetary, solar and lunar imaging, although the cooling also means it should fare well for long exposure deep sky imaging. As there was a near full moon high up in the sky, I decided to take some lunar video – as it was not suitable for deep sky imaging. Continue reading Lunar image – ASI178MM-Cooled

ADM Losmandy/Vixen Dual Mount Clamp for iOptron ZEQ25

Recently I have been thinking of upgrading the iOptron ZEQ25 mount to be able to take my other telescope the Astro-Tech 8″ Ritchey Chretien astrograph. Even though it is close to the load capacity of the iOptron, I have read that some people have had success using this combination. Hence I decided that I needed to upgrade the Vixen mount clamp to a Losmandy/Vixen one from ADM. I ordered this through First Light Optics. Orion nebula M42n and the Running Man

Recently while I was waiting for the new camera to arrive, I thought it would be a good idea to try and capture the best images I could of the wider field images. Previously the images I had captured were plagued by less than optimal guiding, pinched optics and collimation issues in my Skywatcher ED80. Hence now that I had corrected these and have learnt how to guide the iOptron ZEQ25 better, hence it was time to reimage the Orion nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, Pleiades and Horsehead nebula. ZWO ASI178MM-cooled Camera – unboxing

Back in November last year, I became aware that ZWO were making a range of cooled imaging cameras based on Sony sensors. Initially I was thinking of getting the ASI174MM-cooled as it is a reasonably sized sensor with global shutter. But after reading about the other cameras in the line up, I decided to pre-order the ASI178MM-cooled, as it has smaller pixels – great for planetary imaging and also for deep sky objects with a fast telescope. This camera finally arrived on Tuesday. Continue reading ZWO ASI178MM-cooled Camera – unboxing

Solognac Hunting Hide Tent for Astro use

I am aware that there are a few tents available for astronomy, but these are fairly large, not as easy to use and fairly expensive. Hence I have been looking for other alternatives. The features in particular I was looking for was – easy to setup, relatively affordable, and roof that comes off. Hence when I found the Solognac Hunting Hide Tent available from Decathlon for £79.99 (about half the price of the cheapest astronomy tent available), I decided to get this.
